Liberal Senator for South Australia Sean Edwards said the construction of a BP Marine Supply Base at Port Adelaide represented a major step forward in our exploration of oil and gas fields in the Great Australian Bight.
The Marine Supply Base supports BP’s Great Australian Bight programme for offshore petroleum exploration permits granted in 2011.
“Pending the necessary approvals, the BP Marine Supply Base at Port Adelaide will support important oil and gas exploration in the Great Australian Bight. BP has made significant investments so far to determine the presence of commercially significant oil and gas reserves in the area,” he said.
“Such a discovery would have profound benefits for South Australia,” he said.
Local company, Flinders Logistics has partnered with the ASCO Group to run the supply base.
“If successful, this venture could deliver long lasting benefits for South Australia, making us as a globally significant location for oil and gas operations. I welcome that possibility and the prosperity it would entail,” Senator Edwards said.
